2×2 Foundation Strives to Help Small Churches

2×2 Foundation was started by a church so small that someone, somewhere decided we didn’t have a right to exist. They, calling themselves a hierarchy, decided that they had better use for our $3 million in assets than we did.

Suffice to say, the issue spilled into the secular court and at the moment, the court decided to rule in favor of the self-proclaimed hierarchy — without hearing the case, by the way. Meanwhile, this little congregation, too small to exist, began a foundation to make sure its ministry continues with or without the burden of property.

We have a passion for small churches. They are the first responders when trouble strikes a neighborhood. They know the territory; they know the players. They know the strengths; they know the weaknesses. Hierarchies have to spend a lot of time guessing, posturing, and posing before they know what is really going on at the grass roots parish level.

As this blog develops, you will learn about our passion for ministry. We are betting there are a lot of other small churches with similar passions. It’s high time we start communicating and helping one another and stop waiting for hierarchies to discover what St. Lawrence knew back in the third century. The wealth of the church is the people — rich or poor, healthy or feeble, young or old, married or single, saint and sinner.

Here are some of our opening passions:

Vacation Church School: Lots of churches are giving up on this time-tested concept for small congregations to connect and serve their immediate neighborhoods. We want to revive it.

Bullying:
We want a forum for all victims of bullying to speak up and share. Hey, there is strength in numbers! And by the way, we are experts. We’ve been bullied for years!

Children’s Sermons: We believe this is an underdeveloped ministry opportunity and it is often misdirected. We will start a forum for ministers and lay teachers to maximum their outreach to tomorrow’s church leaders.

The Small Church: Most churches are small. Why do we often feel so neglected? We have some ideas and we are sure you do, too!  We’ll start some conversations and see what can grow from it.

We’ll be adding other topics of interest as well . . . so speak up!
